Weekly Homework AssignmentsReading and Math homework is checked daily in class. I believe it is better for the students to catch their own mistakes while they are checking their assignment. This helps them become independent learners and take more responsibility for their work. It is also a good time for me to help them have a better understanding of their problem solving process. Parents, please do not check homework for accuracy. Your role is to make sure the homework is completed at the time is it assigned. Math homework is assigned nightly including Friday. All homework is due the following day unless otherwise indicated in the assignment. Any homework that is not completed and/or turned in at the time it is assigned will be completed at recess the next day. Reading plays an integral part in third grade. So much so, that it is incorporated into every subject throughout the day. The Reading block is two hours of reading focusing on different strategies that we use to completely understand what we are reading. Furthermore, Ms. Maver spends a great deal of time having the students talking about their reading and showing text evidence for why they feel a certain way about their comments. Reading homework plays an important role in becoming a better reader. Reading homework involves reading for 20 minutes and then spending about 10 minutes responding to what was read. This is to be completed every night in their Read and Respond Journal. The students will follow a rubric and they will be given a grade every other Friday. To be a great reader, one cannot merely read. We must go that extra step and talk about it, truly understand our feelings about our reading. We challenge the students to immerse themselves in a book. Parents will see the way they grow as readers in the third grade. |
